ABOUT THE AUTHOR
How Did I Get Here?
I found my way to writing as most writers do, through reading. As a child, I read books like The Boxcar Children, and my mother used to read me the Harry Potter book series before bed. Romance and mysteries especially captured me, the ones with a juicy but predictable twist at the end. To date, my favorite book is Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends. Perhaps in attempt to replicate what I read, I began writing poetry at a young age. The first poem I can remember writing was actually a song to the tune of a royalty free beat on a small, Casio keyboard about my puppy that passed away suddenly. Even then, writing was a way to work through tough emotions and begin to understand what it meant to be human.
Life took over during my first year of college, and I dropped out in 2010 for something much more theatrical, motherhood. I became a mother first and a person second during my 14 years as a stay-at-home mom. After finding writing again in order to cope with depression and anxiety, the overwhelming solitude of the pandemic prompted me to write a memoir. I worked on it for years, until finally deciding to go back to school in order to learn as much as I could.
In 2021, I began my Bachelor's degree, majoring in English and Creative Writing, a double minor in Professional Writing and Communications. Since then, I've published several poems, collections, and am working on a debut romance novel.
In 2024, I created Poets in the Pines and founded the small press with my two co-editors. The publication has published a bestselling anthology and currently working on a second.
Every day I am blown away by the love and support, the nudges from the universe to the exact right place at the right time. Thank you for being here!
It's never too late to follow your dreams!
